Procedural Work For Gastrostomy

- Types of Gastrostomy

  1. Percutaneous Gastrostomy (PEG):
    The tube is inserted through the abdominal wall into the stomach using techniques such as endoscopy or ultrasound imaging.
  2. Surgical Gastrostomy:
    The tube is inserted via open surgery or laparoscopic surgery.

Indications for Gastrostomy:

  • Swallowing difficulties:
    Conditions like stroke, neurological paralysis, or tumors that affect the ability to swallow food properly.
  • Chronic diseases:
    Diseases such as Alzheimer's or muscle disorders that make it difficult to eat orally.
  • Long-term nutritional needs:
    When long-term feeding is required due to chronic diseases or injuries.
  • Pediatric feeding needs:
    Some children with growth problems or eating difficulties may require feeding through a gastrostomy.
