Steps
- The
anesthesiologist turns the patient’s head away from the
area to be prepared.
- Remove
the patient’s clothing and adjust the blanket to expose the
surgical site.
- Place
a sterile drape over the clothing and blanket, folding the
edge over the non-sterile
part.
- Raise
the arm upward and slightly lift the shoulder off the table.
- Place
a sterile towel or drape under the shoulder and armpit for
proper coverage.
Prepare
the Following Areas:
- The
upper arm (from the shoulder down to just below the
elbow).
- The
base of the neck up to the top of the shoulder.
- The
scapula (shoulder blade).
- The
chest area down to the midline.
- The
entire upper arm to ensure a sterile surgical field.
