Introduction to Stroke and the Stroke Care Unit

- Types and Causes of Stroke

There are two primary causes of stroke. Ischemic stroke results from blockage of an artery in the brain, whereas hemorrhagic stroke occurs when a blood vessel in the brain leaks or ruptures. Some patients may experience a temporary interruption of cerebral blood flow, known as a transient ischemic attack (TIA), which does not cause permanent symptoms.
