1.     Clinical trials should be performed that include patients with severe soft tissue infections (eg, necrotizing fasciitis and gas gangrene) and immunocompromised patients.

2.     Investigations should determine host and pathogen factors that result in recurrent cellulitis.

3.     Larger clinical trials should determine if anti-inflammatory agents are useful or detrimental in the treatment of cellulitis and erysipelas.
