dialysis unit is one of the vital specialized departments in the hospital, so it must be dealt with special skills . Because the nursing department represents an important member of the health team, the nursing staff must be familiar with all the skills related to the field of the dialysis unit
➡️Definition of dialysis unit:
- It is the right place to treat critical cases.
- It has an integrated team that provides nursing services at the highest level for 24 continuous hours.
- Reinforce the dialysis unit with appropriate numbers during the three shifts based on quality standards .
- It contains all the precise devices that the patient may need.
Nursing care vision in the dialysis patient care unit
The nursing staff of the dialysis unit are looking forward to To advance the nursing profession and provide nursing care to the unit’s patients effectively, safely and with quality according to Egyptian, national and international standards.
Nursing Care Message in Hemodialysis Patient Care Unit
The nursing staff in the dialysis patient care unit is committed to raising the health level of patients and providing them with the best nursing care in line with the goals and procedures of the hospital and the nursing administration. It also works to raise the scientific and practical level of all nursing staff in the unit and change their attitudes towards modern trends in nursing and medical sciences.
Components of a patient care unit Kidney dialysis :
1- Hemodialysis Machines :
• Devices that purify the blood from toxins and excess fluids .
• It provides monitoring systems for blood pressure, blood flow rate and fluid temperature .
2- Dialysis chairs or beds :
• Designed for patients during treatment sessions, it is designed with an ergonomic design and supports body posture for long periods .
3- Water Treatment System :
• To prepare pure water used in dialysis, it must be free of impurities and bacteria .
4- Medical waste treatment plants :
• To ensure safe disposal of waste resulting from dialysis sessions .
5- Medical tools and supplies :
• Needles, catheters, blood filters, and dialyzers are replaced for each patient .
6- Vital function monitors :
• Devices to measure blood pressure, heart rate, and patient temperature during treatment sessions .
7- Sterilizers :
• For continuous sterilization of tools and surfaces used to prevent infection .
8- Health Information System (HIS) :
• To record and follow up patient data and treatment records .
9- Emergency support equipment :
• Such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) machines and defibrillators for emergency intervention .
10- Dialysis solutions:
• It requires special solutions containing salts and minerals to balance fluids and chemicals in the body .
11. Peritoneal Dialysis Machines:
• It is used for home dialysis or in some hospitals. It relies on the peritoneum in the abdomen to filter waste instead of direct blood .
12. Air Purification Systems :
• To help maintain a healthy and infection-free environment within the department .
13. Infusion Pumps :
• To ensure accurate and safe delivery of intravenous solutions and medications .
14. Fluid Warmers:
• It is used to warm dialysis solutions before use to keep patients comfortable and reduce the feeling of cold during sessions .
15. Pulse Ox meters:
• To monitor patients' oxygen saturation level regularly during treatment sessions .
16. Units for storing medicines and supplies :
• Store medications, solutions and other supplies in a controlled and safe environment .
17. Patient alert and notification systems :
• To ensure immediate response in the event of any patient emergency, such as disturbance in blood pressure or heart rate .
18. Weighing Scales:
• To measure the weight of patients before and after a dialysis session to monitor changes in body fluids .
19. Point-of-Care Testing Devices:
• To perform rapid tests of chemical and toxin levels in the blood .
20. Pressure Ventilation Systems :
• To maintain adequate ventilation and reduce the spread of infection in the department .
21. Electronic and entertainment devices :
• TV screens or tablets to provide entertainment for patients during long treatment sessions .
22. Mobile hand washing stations :
• To increase hygiene and promote infection prevention practices among staff and patients.
