Furosemide inhibits the reabsorption
of sodium and chloride in the ascending loop of Henle,
promoting water, chloride, sodium, magnesium, and calcium excretion.
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to
furosemide or sulfonylureas
- Anuria (complete lack
of urine output)
- Severe hyponatremia or electrolyte imbalance
- Hepatic coma (until
improvement)
Side Effects:
- Electrolyte imbalances
(low sodium, low potassium)
- Dehydration
- Gout
- Dizziness, headache, blurred vision
- Hypotension
- Nausea, constipation
- Hearing loss
(especially with IV/IM administration)
