- When to Consult a Doctor After Urostomy

Patients should consult a doctor immediately if they experience any of the following symptoms or changes:

  • Stoma-Related Issues:
    • Changes in size, shape, or color of the stoma
    • Skin irritation or redness around the stoma
    • Hernia (bulging around the stoma)
    • Stoma retraction
    • Stoma narrowing
  • Urinary Issues:
    • Frequent or urgent urination
    • Pain or burning during urination
    • Blood in the urine
    • Foul-smelling urine
    • Fever or chills
  • Pouch-Related Issues:
    • Persistent leakage
    • Difficulty emptying the pouch
    • Skin rash or irritation from the pouch adhesive
  • Other Concerns:
    • Changes in overall health
    • Anxiety about the urostomy or its impact on life
