- Complications of Mastectomy (Breast Removal)

  1. General anesthesia risks, including nausea, vomiting, sore throat, headache, and temporary urinary retention.
  2. Serious anesthesia risks, including heart attacks, strokes, and pneumonia.
  3. Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) due to prolonged immobility.
  4. Blood clots traveling to the lungs, causing shortness of breath and chest pain, which can be fatal.
  5. Surgical site infection, requiring long-term antibiotics or additional surgery.
  6. Bleeding, either during or after surgery, which may require a blood transfusion or another operation.
  7. Fluid accumulation (seroma) under the skin, requiring drainage.
