- Clinical indicators of guideline implementation

A. Diagnosis

1. Symptoms and chest examination recorded.

2. Spirometry or peak-flow result recorded, if available.

B. Management

1.      ICS-containing treatment prescribed — not a SABA reliever alone.

2.      Inhaler technique checked, and patient told what to do if asthma worsens.

3.      Asthma control asked about at each visit (ACT score or the four simple questions).

4.      Exacerbations treated correctly: systemic corticosteroids (e.g., prednisolone 40–50 mg/day for 5–7 days) for moderate-to-severe exacerbations; patient not discharged on a reliever alone — controller started or stepped up, and follow-up arranged within 1 week.
