• The cause is removed immediately.
• In cases of gas asphyxiation, open the windows to allow fresh air in, close the gas valve, then loosen and remove the pressure bandage from the neck, chest, and abdomen.
• In cases of hanging or strangulation, immediately untie the rope or strap around the neck.
• Remove any foreign object from the mouth, especially in children or the elderly, if it is the cause of suffocation.
• Start artificial respiration in cases of respiratory arrest or in case of suffocation caused by diphtheria, which may cause paralysis of the throat muscles as first aid, then transfer the patient immediately to the hospital.
